About Shira

For 25 years, Shira Devi has been on her toes toiling on farms to make ends meet for her family. She and her husband, Balwant have both worked tirelessly for several years to educate their two sons. Currently, her older son works as a driver and the younger one has migrated to Mumbai to work as a chef. It's no denying that the love for food runs in the family. Shira wishes to cook to her heart's content. She has chosen to nourish her passion by earning a revenue from it. Shira has thus applied for a loan to open a food stall in her village. The loan will finance the purchase of new furniture, cooking pots, raw materials and a new gas connection. Shira hopes the revenue from her food stall will enable her to better the quality of life for her family as she works to establish her own shop in her village. Support aspirational Shira today.

About

UMM is an apex federation of women SHGs established in 2005, registered under Uttrakhand self-reliant cooperative act 2003, to meet the financial service needs of the poor living in one of the most underserved areas of Uttrakhand. UMM's mandate has been to focus on solutions that provide direct socio economic improvement to the marginalized and low-income households. AT India and UMM work in a predominantly rural, hill-based economy. There are limited avenues to credit access and lack of sustainable livelihood sources in these regions.

Impact Narrative

The difficult terrain and extreme weather of Uttarakhand makes it an arduous task for the people of the state to access financial services. The partnership between Rang De and UMM works towards bridging this gap.
